Marriage and Family Life Ministry

THE LIFELONG JOURNEY OF LEARNING TO LOVE LIKE CHRIST

Our FAOGW Marriage and Family Life Ministry has been serving the Fellowship and communities since the year 2000 and was initially called the ‘Marriage Enrichment Committee.’  The footprints of this ministry had its genesis in a training programme conducted by representatives of "Married for Life" of Marriage Ministries International (MMI).

We minister to singles, engaged couples preparing for marriage (pre-marital), married couples, post marital couples, elderly (Eagles Wings Club), divorced and the widowed. We also plan programmes that focus on single parents, nuclear, and extended family types, as we seek to provide resources, prayers and guidance that build strong families and by extension, good communities.

Focus on Marriages

In preparing couples for marriage and those already married, we stand on the biblical foundation for marriage found in Genesis 2:24: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

At the heart of our ministry, is the intent of giving couples an opportunity to spend time together in order to better understand the covenant blessings and benefits of marriage. Also, this will help them discover how to value each other and develop their own love language for lasting marriages.

Focus on Families

To minister to the evolving family types, our ministry has adapted our programmes, recognizing that the traditional nuclear family is now found alongside several additional family settings that make up our fellowship and community. Our families now include:

  • Nuclear Families
  • Divorced Father (or Mother) and Children Families
  • Sibling Families
  • Grandparent led Families
  • Extended Families
  • Widowed Father (or Mother) and Children Families
  • Single Parent (Dad/Mom) Families
  • Singles

We firmly believe that the plan and purpose of God for the family is to prepare every individual for a creative and spirit-filled life.

What we do

We host annual Family Month celebrations in the month of March and feature a variety of activities intended to strengthen families in the fellowship as well as influence families in the communities.  Some key activities that feature on our calendar include:

  • Annual Family Fun-Day
  • Family Fitness Walks
  • Fund-raiser Take-away Lunch (to fund educational needs and school             supplies for children in the fellowship and community)
  • Marriage Retreats and Seminars for married couples
  • Parenting seminars for babies being dedicated to the Lord
  • Family movie nights
  • Health and wellness clinics for senior members

Partnering across Ministries: We also partner with the Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry and youths on cross cutting topics impacting specific populations in our fellowship.
