True Stewardship

“Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:2 (NKJV)

In the journey of faith, stewardship is often seen as a responsibility to manage what God has entrusted to us – whether it’s our time, talents, finances, or resources. But true stewardship goes beyond mere management; it’s about recognising that everything we have belongs to God and is a gift from Him.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that faithfulness is the main requirement of stewardship. This faithfulness is not just about doing what is expected but about the condition of our hearts in doing it. Are we managing our resources with a heart that honours God, or do self-interest and personal gain drive us?

Consider the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. The servants were given resources according to their ability. Those who were faithful in their stewardship were commended and rewarded, but the one who acted out of fear and negligence was rebuked. This parable teaches us that God values not just the end result but the attitude and effort behind our stewardship.

Today, let us evaluate the resources God has blessed us with: Are we using them in ways that honour Him? This could be our work skills, our finances, or even our time. Take a moment and think about how we can better align these resources with God’s purposes and plans.

Next, let us endeavour to serve with Joy: Stewardship isn’t just about obligation – it’s about joyfully serving God with what we have (Psalm 100:2). When we approach our responsibilities with a heart of gratitude and joy, we glorify God and find fulfilment in our tasks.

Thirdly, let us practice being faithful in the small things: Sometimes, we may feel that what we have isn’t much. But Jesus said, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much…” (Luke 16:10 – NKJV). We should, therefore, start with what we have, no matter how small, and be diligent in using it for God’s glory.

Remember, stewardship is not just about what you have but how you use it. It’s about living with an awareness that everything is from God and for God. As you go about your day, consider how you can be a faithful steward, bringing glory to God in every aspect of your life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many blessings You have entrusted to me. Help me to be a faithful steward of all that You have given, using my time, talents, and resources in ways that bring honour to Your name. Give me wisdom to manage them well, a heart that serves joyfully, and a spirit of gratitude for all You have provided. May my stewardship reflect my love for You and my desire to see Your kingdom come. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
