“For whoever finds me [Wisdom] finds life and obtains favour…from the Lord.”
Proverbs 8:35 (MSG)
It’s a brand new year, and some have already prepared their list of resolutions: to eat healthily, learn a new skill, save more money, complete a task, adjust relationships — just to mention a few. The list varies in length for some. The general thought is that we cannot continue to do the same things year after year, expecting better results. There must be some adjustments.
Upon pondering the whole notion of ‘resolution,’ nothing in particular requires such great attention except the search for wisdom. Proverbs 8:35-36 shows us two sides of the coin:
…those who find wisdom find life
and receive favor from the Lord.
…those who fail to find wisdom harm themselves…
Further, all who hate wisdom love death.
These verses should cause one to reflect on some of the poor choices made over the years that caused harm to the mind and body, with a rippling effect on families, organisations, communities, and nations. Must life continue along this path? God forbid! A better path is there, the path of wisdom. Upon finding wisdom, we find life and favour from the Lord. These are essential for us to successfully navigate each day, but they truly start when we first develop reverence for the Lord.
May we be reminded today and every day that wisdom is the principal thing (Proverbs 4:7). Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! Greatness and honour will be our portion if we prize and embrace wisdom.
Beginning this year, above all resolutions, let us endeavour to find wisdom and stay on her path.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, as this new year is before me, I ask You for wisdom and that You will help me to stay on its path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
