Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end.” Lamentations 3:22 (HCSB)
A quick internet search for the meaning of the phrase “everlasting love” yielded the following result: “a love that lasts forever, a deep and unwavering affection that never fades or ends.…” When we think about the love God has for us, His children, we know beyond the shadow of a doubt that it is unlike any other. Our parents’, siblings’, relatives’, or friends’ love may fail or may depend on circumstances, conditions, or emotions, but God’s love is steadfast, unchanging, and eternal. He demonstrated this love for us even before we were born into this sinful world (Romans 5:8). How comforting. God’s love is not dependent on our actions or worthiness. He loved us even before we knew Him, freely and unconditionally. What an ultimate expression of love — a love that sacrifices, forgives, and redeems! We see the evidence of God’s everlasting love throughout Scripture, while 1 John 4:8 (NIV) says, “…God is love.” In other words, God’s love is everlasting because it originates from His very nature. Jeremiah 31:3 (HCSB) states, “…I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have continued to extend faithful love to you.” Love is not just something God does; it is who He is. This means that His love is limitless, inexhaustible, and enduring. No matter how far we stray, He welcomes us back. The ultimate demonstration of God’s everlasting love was the act of sending His Son, Jesus Christ, the ultimate sacrifice, the Waymaker, to bring Salvation to all who would believe! In our own moments of doubt, pain, or loneliness, let us remind ourselves about the eternal nature of God’s love. His love never ends. Let this love be our anchor in the storms of life, our comfort in trials, and our hope for eternity. Most of all, let this love transform us. Let it fill our hearts with gratitude and inspire us to love others as God has loved us. PrayerFather, we thank You for Your unconditional love for us. Forgive us for our shortcomings and the many times we have failed You. Help us by the power of the Holy Spirit to live lives that honour this love, and help us to love others in a similar manner. Amen
