God Values Our Faithfulness

“When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God more accurately.” – Acts 18:26 (NLT)

Priscilla’s name in the Bible doesn’t stand out like Ruth, the woman at the well, the woman with the issue of blood, or Esther. Yet her Christian faith and ministry work are no less significant and are held up as shining examples for our own lives and walk with Christ Jesus.

Priscilla and Aquila are excellent examples of hospitality and faith. Despite their hardships, they encouraged their fellow believers by hosting a church in their home for many years.

Priscilla, a faithful servant of God, remained steadfast and worked assiduously as a tent maker, and for the Kingdom of God (Acts 18:2-3). She displayed a strong partnership in ministry alongside her husband (Acts 18:18-19). She hosted believers and church meetings and even risked her life for Paul (1 Corinthians 16:19;  Romans 16:3-4). She supported and nurtured the work of God.

Priscilla was a gifted teacher of the Word with a deep understanding of Scripture (Acts 18:26). Alongside her husband, she corrected and instructed Apollos, an eloquent but incomplete preacher. She taught with wisdom and humility, taking him aside privately, ensuring he was taught without embarrassment. Her role in mentoring Apollos helped spread sound teaching and correct errors in doctrine. Priscilla invested in the spiritual growth of others, ensuring the Gospel message was accurately conveyed.

Like Deborah, a judge and teacher in Israel (Judges 4:4-5), Priscilla was a teacher and leader who helped shape the faith of others. As she influenced both men and women in ministry, she continued prioritising the work of God over personal comfort (Romans 16:3-5).

Key Lessons to be learnt for Christian Life and Ministry:

  1. Women have an essential role in Ministry (Acts 18:26).
  2. Marriage should be a partnership in ministry (Acts 18:2-3).
  3. Teaching others is vital to Christian service. All believers should share their knowledge of Christ (Acts 18:26).
  4. Hospitality is a powerful evangelism tool (Romans 16:3-5). Priscilla opened her home for church meetings, and the man of God (Apostle Paul), which facilitated the flourishing of the Gospel.
  5. Hardships should not prevent us from serving in God’s Kingdom. Priscilla displayed an understanding of what is essential, just like the biblical character of Martha (Luke 10:38-42). Service is a form of worship.

Priscilla’s commitment to Christ, even in the face of persecution (Acts 18:1-2), is a model for all believers.

Prayer

Lord, help me serve You faithfully every season of my life. Grant me the wisdom to disciple and teach others. Help me to be a faithful partner in ministry, and give me the courage to stand firm in my faith in spite of challenges. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
