“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God…” – 1 John 3:1(NIV)
Have you ever had anything lavished on you? To lavish means to bestow something in generous or extravagant quantities; to expend, heap, shower, pour, give generously or unstintingly. What about love? Was it lavished on you?
It’s a very wonderful feeling to know you are loved, much more to be loved greatly. In today’s world, love means different things to different people. Irrespective of this, we have all experienced love in some form, and we certainly know how that feels in the natural. Whether it was in tangible or intangible ways, love would have been expressed, although sometimes it can be considered conditional, selfish, misconceived, misunderstood, conflicting, abusive, and more.
Our Heavenly Father’s love is none of those. It is selfless, compassionate, unifying, forgiving, transcendent, and transformational. God’s love is unchangeable. It can outlast any other form of love. It’s everlasting. This Agape love is the highest form of love, and that’s the extent of the love God has for us. Don’t you want to experience this kind of love? The Scripture in Matthew 7:11 (NIV) says, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!” Therefore you simply have to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and you will be adopted into the family of God, hence becoming a child of God, hence be positioned to receive good gifts.
With Father’s Day being celebrated, what better gift to receive than the gift of salvation? Men, just like you, are needed in the lives of your children. God needs you to become His children and wants to be in your life forever.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us unconditionally and for the assurance that once we accept You as Lord and Saviour, we are adopted and called Your precious children. Bless us, we pray, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
