“Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’; so they filled them to the brim.” – John 2:7 (NIV)
At the wedding in Cana, Jesus performed His first recorded miracle — turning water into wine. What’s powerful is how it began: with obedience to a simple instruction.
“Fill the jars with water.”
Nothing glamorous. Nothing spectacular. Just ordinary servants, ordinary jars, and ordinary water. But when ordinary obedience meets divine power, transformation happens.
The servants didn’t argue or hesitate; they filled the jars to the brim. That small act of faith positioned them to witness a miracle. Jesus took what was common and made it uncommon — turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.
In our lives, Jesus still invites us to “fill the jars.” Sometimes, that means doing simple, faithful things — praying when we don’t feel like it, showing kindness when no one notices, or serving quietly behind the scenes. When we obey, even in small things, God can transform ordinary moments into extraordinary testimonies.
As we reflect today, what simple instructions is God asking you to obey right now? Are you willing to fill the jars to the brim, or do you need clarity before surrendering in obedience? Are you willing to fill your jar, even when it doesn’t make sense? God is calling us to a higher level of obedience, not complicated, not restrictive, but wholesome, simple obedience that will transform our lives and the marketplace. God is preparing to turn your faithfulness into a miracle. Wouldn’t you trust Him by filling your jars to the brim?
Prayer
Lord, help me to be faithful in the small things. Even when I don’t understand, give me the courage to obey Your word. I trust that when I fill my jar, You will do the transforming work. Use my obedience to reveal Your glory. Amen.
