“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)
God not only call us into relationships; He also calls us into His purpose! We are saved to serve, shine His light, and bring glory to His name in all that we do. We have each been uniquely designed to fulfil God’s mandate for our lives. This call is not random, but part of His divine plan. Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV) states “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; Before you were born, I sanctified you…”. Our giftings, experiences, and our drive are all tools that can be used for God’s glory and honour.
Responding to the call of God is more about our availability than our ability. You may not feel as though you are ready, but once God has called you, He is bound to empower you. What is required is our obedience to this call to walk in God’s purpose! Sometimes His call will stretch us, lead us out of our comfort zones, or severely test our faith, but we are reminded that “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19 – NKJV). And yet still, each step of obedience ultimately leads us to new levels of spiritual growth and blessing.
True joy is found when we answer God’s call, fully knowing that beyond all doubt, we are in the centre of His will. All in all, the call of God is a lifelong journey. God first calls us to a relationship (to know Him), and then He calls us to purpose (to serve Him). When we answer both, we find peace, direction and fulfilment.
Take a moment and examine yourselves – what has God been nudging you to do that you’ve been disobeying? How can we remain faithful to God’s call even when it’s difficult or unclear?
Prayer
Dear God, help us to hear and obey your call, and remove every distraction from around us. When we answer ‘yes’ to your call, help us keep our eyes on You even when the going gets tough. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
