“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish…” – Psalm 92:13 (NKJV)
The act of sitting at Jesus’s feet carries profound significance and numerous blessings for believers seeking to be close to Him. It is a necessary act as we embark on a spiritual journey to draw closer and get to know God personally.
Our spiritual journey requires making many things a daily practice, including:
1. Deepening our faith. We do this by spending time in Jesus’ presence, also called ‘sitting at Jesus’s feet.’ This allows us to focus solely on His teachings, while fostering a stronger faith and trust in His Word.
2. Learning and actively listening. It offers a posture of humility and attentiveness, enabling us to absorb His wisdom directly from His Word.
3. Personal transformation. Regularly sitting at His feet can lead to inner renewal, patience, and love (the most important).
4. Showing grace and compassion. This is providing a safe space to share (and experience) God’s mercy and unconditional love.
5. Practising worship and surrender. Surrendering enriches our prayer life and spiritual connection to Christ.
Friends, sitting at Jesus’ feet is an act of humility, attentiveness, and devotion, symbolising a willingness to learn and listen. It helps one adopt a comportment of spiritual awareness and surrender, enabling us to serve more effectively in His kingdom. We learn from His example, thereby gaining knowledge and wisdom and enhancing our Christian growth.
The woman at Jesus’ feet in Luke 7:36-50 demonstrates repentance and humility that lead to personal forgiveness and grace. We should also adopt that posture toward Jesus.
Today, ask yourself:
- How would sitting at Jesus’s feet change my perspective on life’s challenges?
- In what ways can sitting at His feet influence my daily decisions?
- What are practical ways to cultivate a habit of sitting at Jesus’s feet to learn?
As you ponder, here are some nuggets:
1. Humility and attentiveness are essential for growth.
2. Regularly making time to sit at Jesus’s feet deepens our spiritual understanding.
3. Encountering Jesus personally transforms us into better followers and reflections of His love.
Sitting at His feet is an act of worship that renews our faith journey. By choosing to sit at Jesus’ feet daily, we open ourselves to divine blessings, wisdom, and transformation. Let us cultivate this humble posture as a pathway to a closer, more meaningful relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
