“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.” – Ephesians 3:20 (ESV)
Just when you think you’ve mastered the lessons of faith, God expands the classroom. Just when you feel you’ve reached your limit, He stretches the boundaries further than you imagined possible.
After nearly three decades of missionary life, after trusting God through Guyana’s uncertainties and Albania’s twenty-one-year marathon, God called me to Finland. Beautiful, wonderful, breathtakingly expensive Finland. One of the most costly countries on earth.
Everything in me wanted to negotiate. Lord, haven’t I proven my faith enough by now? Can’t I go somewhere… more affordable? Haven’t I already passed this test?
But God wasn’t interested in my comfort zone. He was interested in my continued growth. He wasn’t finished stretching my faith.
Here’s what I’ve discovered in this new season: God doesn’t just test your limits; He deliberately expands them. Each new chapter of obedience isn’t designed to break your faith but to stretch it further than you ever thought possible. The God who provided miraculously in Guyana, who sustained me faithfully for twenty-one years in Albania, is the very same God who meets every need in expensive Finland.
His resources haven’t diminished. His arm hasn’t shortened. His faithfulness hasn’t faded with time.
Paul declares that God is able to do “far more abundantly than all we ask or think.” Pause and consider those words. He doesn’t say God does the bare minimum. He doesn’t say God scrapes by. He does the abundant, the exceeding, the more than we dared imagine.
Finland seemed mathematically impossible. The numbers simply didn’t work on paper. The cost of living towered beyond any budget I could construct. But faith doesn’t operate by calculation; it operates by trust. And the God who called me to this expensive nation has proven, once again, that He is gloriously, abundantly faithful.
Your next season might feel like too much. The stakes are higher than before. The challenges are greater. The gap between what you have and what you need seems impossibly wide. Good. That’s exactly the environment where faith flourishes.
God isn’t asking you to figure it all out. He’s inviting you to trust Him at depths you’ve never explored before. And when you do, you’ll discover He’s been waiting to reveal dimensions of His provision you’ve never witnessed.
Your limits are simply invitations for His limitless power to shine.
Prayer
Lord, I surrender my fear of the impossible. Expand my faith to match the immense size of Your calling on my life. Where I see limitations, help me see opportunities for Your power to move mightily. I release my need to understand the “how” and choose to trust in the “Who.” I believe You for the abundant, exceeding, more-than-I-can-imagine provision that only You can give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
