“…Push the boat out further to the deep water, and you and your partners let down your nets for a catch.” – Luke 5:4 (GNT)
So often, we settle for the ordinary and are content with the routine.
Wake up, get washed, say a little prayer, set off to work, or do our daily chores, and it is just a repeat day after day.
This may have been the same for Simon Peter.
In Luke 5, Simon and his fishing partners were washing their nets. They went out to fish, toiled all night, as they would have done daily, and on that occasion caught nothing.
They were following routine; they had not considered trying another method, but Jesus intervened. He said to Simon Peter, “…Push the boat out further to the deep water, and you and your partners let down your nets for a catch.”
For Simon Peter, fishing in the deep was unconventional, but by faith, he said to Jesus, “Master…we worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5 – GNT). The act of faith yielded an enormous catch; more bountiful than they could have imagined.
Today, I implore you to recognise that there are no limits to what God can do for us. Launch out into being the great and successful businessman or woman that you can become, that resourceful teacher, and that emphatic Minister of God’s Word. God is calling you to stretch your faith.
Prayer
Father, today, as we come before Your presence, recognising as Simon Peter did, in Luke 5:8, that we are sinful and, in our sinfulness, we want to hide from You. But help us to understand that You are calling us to a greater experience, to a fruitful path, and we must respond by faith and follow You. Remove all fear and open our eyes to see the manifestation of Your goodness towards us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
