Throw Off – Part 2

“…put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires…” – Ephesians 4:22 (NIV)

Yesterday, we examined throwing off everything that hinders. Let us examine: Throwing off sin.

Sinners sin. But believers of the Lord Jesus Christ sin too. Yes, sin is a tremendous weight. It is such a load that it interferes with anyone’s proper function. In fact, sin blocks sight, vision, hearing, and a clear path. It separates us from our Creator (Isaiah 59:2), resulting in a very difficult life with nothing but destruction at the end.

We must not hoard sin; it must be thrown off. The Bible admonishes us to take action. We are conscious of the sin that easily entangles us, maybe it’s gossiping, backbiting, envy, jealousy, sexual immorality, and the like. We know our struggles, and God does too. We must understand, however, that each of us is accountable for our lives and responsible for throwing off sin.

We can honour this sacred responsibility by surrendering our lives fully to God and using the blood of Jesus Christ in our struggles against sin. The blood of Christ not only washes away our sins but also cleanses our conscience from sinful acts that lead to death. With our consciences clear, we can unreservedly serve the living God and run with perseverance the race God marked out for us.

Today, throw off sin and run with perseverance, not giving up, serving the living God each step of the way. He will guide you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for feeding my spirit with Your Word. Help me to throw off sin that easily entangles me. May my life show forth Your glory as I run with perseverance the race You marked out for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
