Cultivating an Attitude That Welcomes God

“…but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word.” –  Isaiah 66:2 (KJV)

God is not drawn to excellence alone; He is drawn to humility. The kind of attitude that invites His presence is not loud or self-promoting; it is quiet, surrendered, and deeply reverent.

Moses is a powerful example of this. Despite his calling and authority, he remained deeply dependent on God. In Exodus 33:15 (KJV), he said to God, “…If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.” Moses understood something essential: success without God’s presence is failure. His leadership was not sustained by skill alone, but by a posture of reliance and humility before God.

In the New Testament, we see this in Jesus Himself. Though He is the Son of God, He modeled perfect humility. Philippians 2:7 (KJV) tells us He “…made himself of no reputation…” His ministry was powerful not just because of what He did, but because of His obedience, love, and submission to the Father. Even when He had every reason to assert Himself, He chose surrender.

Now consider what happens when that attitude is absent. When ministry becomes about recognition, control, or comparison, it creates tension instead of unity. Pride resists correction. Insecurity seeks validation. Offense grows easily. These attitudes grieve the Holy Spirit and hinder the flow of God’s power.

The invitation is simple but profound: return to a heart posture that honours God. Cultivate gratitude. Choose humility daily. Serve even when no one sees. Celebrate others without comparison. Stay teachable. These are the attitudes that make room for God to dwell richly in your life and ministry.

God’s presence is not earned by perfection; it is welcomed by posture. When your heart is aligned with Him, even the simplest act of service becomes powerful.

Prayer

Father, I desire more than success; I desire Your presence. Help me to walk in humility and to remain sensitive to Your Spirit. Remove pride, comparison, and selfish ambition from my heart. Teach me to serve with a pure motive and a willing spirit. Let my life and ministry be a place where You are always welcome. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
