Are You Practising the Word?

“Solid food is for those who are mature, who have trained themselves to recognise the difference between right and wrong and then to do what is right.” – Hebrews 5:14 (NLT)

As a baby, you didn’t immediately start walking. Your bones and muscles were not yet developed. So, your parents would not have put you to stand on your tiny limbs that couldn’t yet carry your weight. But as you grew physically, older people helped you sit up, and soon enough, you could sit on your own.

A little later, you started creeping and eventually could stand unaided. Then you walked with some assistance. You stumbled, you fell, but you didn’t give up. You started walking perfectly, and today you’re walking without even thinking about it.

Spiritual growth works exactly like learning to walk. As a child of God, you may be tempted to say, “If I am truly a child of God, how come sometimes things don’t go as I would like them to?”

Child of God, just be reminded that your identity isn’t in question; you’re a child of God. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirits that we are the children of God (Romans 8:16). Therefore, it’s about your training, not your identity.

Children of God must be trained in righteousness and in the ways of the kingdom. You must exercise yourself in the Word. You must practise the Word. A successful Christian life is one of practice. You practise love, you practise faith, you practise your divine authority. You practise joy, peace, and dominion until you live them effortlessly.

Be reminded that practising the Word is doing the Word. James 1:22 (KJV) says, “But be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only…” So keep training yourself. Keep putting the Word to work. Keep practising who you are. The result is that you’ll be walking in victory, prosperity, health, and wisdom. Try it!

Prayer

Dear Father, thank You for training me through Your Word and by Your Holy Spirit in the way of righteousness. Thank You, Father, for strengthening my faith and deepening my understanding. Help me to continue living in Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
