“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…” – Psalm 23:6(NKJV)
It happened at Chambers Street Station in the New York subway. My wife and I were returning from Atlanta after a long bus ride, tired and carrying several bags. Later, we realised one bag was missing – the one with our passports, identification cards, and important documents.
I returned to Chambers Street Station hoping to find it, but the bag was gone. I had even taken the wrong train in my hurry, but a man helped point me in the right direction. When I reached the station, officers told me someone had reported seeing the bag, but by the time they checked, it was no longer there.
As I returned to my wife, sadness came over me. I kept asking, “How are we going to get back home to Guyana?” The police instructed us to go to the Guyana Consulate to obtain official documents, then return to them to file a report. It felt uncertain, but God was already working.
In the middle of everything, I had peace inside. Psalm 27:1 (NKJV) says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear…?” And Isaiah 26:3 reminds us that God keeps in perfect peace those who trust in Him. At the consulate, we met a believer who follows my home church (First Assembly – FAOGW) services. She recognised me as a worship team member and was happy to have met us. I was amazed because God had placed someone in the right place at the right time.
The Lord used her to help us get back home. He also provided money for new plane tickets and opened the door for us to return safely to my homeland. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust the Lord and acknowledge Him, and Philippians 4:19 says He will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. I experienced this. Through it all, I saw the mighty hand of God protecting us, providing for us, and guiding us home. Thank You, Jesus.
Remember, God is never absent, even when the situation looks impossible. When we trust Him, He provides what we need at the right time.
