“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you…and give you a heart of flesh” – Ezekiel 36:26 (NKJV)
Life has a way of hardening us. We face lies, attacks, criticisms, or battles we don’t fully understand, and our instinct is to protect ourselves by closing our hearts. We may even know people whose harsh words and quick temper pushed others away, leaving behind the sting of a hardened heart.
In both cases, the result is the same: a hardness that no one and nothing can penetrate. But there is good news – God promises something powerful and far greater: a new heart and a new spirit. Ezekiel 36:26 speaks to a deep, inner transformation for you and me.
A heart of stone represents stubbornness, resistance, and a hardness toward God. But the promise to replace that with a heart of flesh speaks of tenderness, responsiveness, and being alive to His Spirit. This promise reminds us that true change doesn’t come from our own strength. It is God Himself Who performs the miracle of renewal.
God doesn’t do patchwork repairs; He gives us an entirely new heart, which means past failures, brokenness, rejection, grief, or criticism cannot define us. God’s Spirit in us will empower us to forgive, to love, and to walk in obedience. Over time, this transformation will be evident: anger gives way to gentleness, bitterness to compassion, and hardness to humility.
God can turn a heart of stone into a heart of flesh and give you a fresh start.
Prayer
God, thank You for Your promise to give me a new heart and a new spirit. Remove every hardness within me and make me tender to Your Word. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I may walk in love, humility, and obedience. May my life reflect Your transforming power, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
