Draw Near

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” –  James 4:8 (NKJV)

Read that verse again. At the very beginning, God extends a beautiful invitation – a wonderful promise: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” That’s not just poetic language; it’s truth. Try it for yourself. Fix your eyes on Jesus, open your Bible, and spend time in His presence. Soon you’ll sense His peace and joy filling your heart. God longs to spend time with you, but He will never force His way in. He waits for you to open your heart and invite Him.

Of course, this journey isn’t without challenges. In our fast-paced, noisy world, it’s easy to feel as though God is distant. We hide behind the chaos of our schedules, and our influence shrinks when we drift from Him. Not everyone chooses the path of obedience, but when we draw closer to Him, He provides clarity that replaces confusion, and His peace quiets the storms.

God knows the struggles we face. He reassures us of His love and presence, yet we often get pulled toward worldly distractions. One of the greatest obstacles is double-mindedness – trying to navigate life’s complexities on our own while still claiming devotion to Him. But James reminds us that cleansing our hands and purifying our hearts is essential.

What’s required is a shift in perspective. When we set our focus on eternal things, our faith rises above human reasoning. We begin to see life through God’s lens, and His Spirit works within us to renew and strengthen us.

Today, open your heart to the Spirit of God. Allow Him to speak to you in fresh ways. Let His presence purify your motives, guide your actions, and draw you into deeper intimacy with Him.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your promise that when I draw near to You, You draw near to me.  Cleanse my hands and purify my heart. Remove double-mindedness and distractions, and help me to walk in wholehearted devotion to You.  May my life forever reflect Your presence and power, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
