Keep Your Heart Clean – Part 1

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right and steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:10 (AMP)

Our hearts are the foundation of our thoughts, words, attitudes, and actions. If we desire to live according to God’s will, we must be willing to surrender them to Him.

In Psalm 51, David cried out to God for mercy and forgiveness. After recognising his sins, including lust, anger, and the consequences of his sinful choices, David understood that he needed more than outward change; he needed a complete transformation of his heart. He confessed his wrongdoing and asked God to create within him a clean heart and renew a right and steadfast spirit.

David’s prayer is a powerful example for all of us. We, too, must bring our hearts before the Lord and surrender our unforgiveness, envy, dishonesty, anger, pride, and every hidden struggle. Instead of holding on to these things, let us confess our sins, repent, and allow God to transform us from the inside out.

Luke 6:45 reminds us that a good person brings out good things from the good stored in the heart, while an evil person brings out evil things from the evil stored within. Jesus also teaches us that our mouths speak from the abundance of our hearts. Therefore, we must be mindful of what we allow to take root within us. Store up God’s Word, love, kindness, patience, and truth in your hearts so that your words and actions will glorify Him.

My brothers and sisters, we must honestly examine ourselves. Are we holding on to unforgiveness? Are envy, bitterness, or dishonesty taking up space in our hearts? Are we asking God for genuine inner transformation, or are we simply trying to appear righteous before others? God desires truth in our inward parts. He wants us to surrender completely so that our lives can reflect His character and fulfill His purpose. And importantly, receive eternal life.

In Matthew 21:9 (NKJV), the crowds cried out, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” What a beautiful declaration of praise to our King! However, our walk with Christ requires more than words of praise. It requires a heart that is surrendered to Him. Our song should be, “I Surrender All” – not some of our lives, not only the things we find easy to give up, but everything.

Jesus deserves our whole heart! Allow Him to purify it!
