“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death…before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” – Hebrews 11:5 (KJV)
We live in a world filled with uncertainty, fear, temptation, and spiritual darkness. Many hearts are troubled by the condition of society, the pressures of daily life, and concerns about the future. Yet the story of Enoch reminds us that God’s people are not called to live in fear, but in faith.
Enoch lived in a corrupt generation, surrounded by sin and moral decline. The environment around him was no more favourable to righteousness than the world we live in today. Yet Enoch chose to walk with God. Daily, he cultivated a relationship with the Lord until communion with God became the defining characteristic of his life.
His faith was stronger than the fear of his surroundings. Instead of allowing darkness to shape his character, he allowed God’s presence to transform him. He fixed his mind on heavenly things, trusted God’s promises, and sought purity of heart.
The same invitation is extended to us today. God is calling His children to walk closely with Him, not because of fear of judgement alone, but because of love and trust. As our faith grows, fear loses its grip. The closer we walk with God, the more confidence we gain in His care, His power, and His promises.
Jesus said: “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8, KJV). Like Enoch, we are called to seek purity of heart and a deeper relationship with God. Faith does not remove all challenges, but it enables us to face them with courage. When our eyes are fixed on Christ, fear is replaced by peace, anxiety by trust, and uncertainty by hope. Remember, “…God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” – 2nd Timothy 1:7.
Today, ask yourself:
- Am I allowing fear to control my thoughts, or faith to guide my decisions?
- How can I develop a closer walk with God each day?
- What promises of God can I hold onto when fear tries to overwhelm me?
The answers to these questions help us in our walk with God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Enoch, who walked with You faithfully in a difficult and sinful world. Teach me to trust You more than I trust my fears. Strengthen my faith when challenges arise and help me keep my eyes fixed on Jesus. May my life bring You pleasure as I walk so closely with You, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
