Get Ready, Set, Go

James 4:7 – Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Jesus, our perfect example, was about to embark on a major assignment. He was about to begin His ministry on earth. God knew that Jesus would have needed strength from above. Thus, He allowed the Holy Spirit to lead Jesus to the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

After fasting for forty (40) days Jesus was hungry. At that very time the devil came to tempt Him. It should be no strange thing for us then to be tempted during this period of Fasting and Prayer. The enemy used his usual strategy of attacking, The lust of the Flesh, The lust of the Eye and The Pride of Life. (1 John 2:16) Be watchful, aware and ready to oppose the enemy.

Now, let’s examine Jesus’ response. The Word of God was evident and alive in His heart, that He quoted, not verses randomly, but relevant ones. Eventually, the devil left Him. James 4:7 is our guide. Retreat and fear must not be in our minds. Allow the Holy Spirit’s power to dwell in our lives and accept the strength and power that He gives. He will see us through.
