Hard Work – Part 1

Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labour – Proverbs 12: 24 (NIV)

Seeking God and hard work are important qualities to live a successful life. Many of us desire to be someone of value and influence; we look to great people and say to ourselves, “I wish I can be like him/her”, “I wish I can have a 5-bedroom home like the Jones’.” It is good to desire; nothing is wrong when our desires are pure and peaceful. Dr. T.P. Chia said, “The stronger the desire, the greater the motivation. The stronger the motivation, the greater the achievement”. So again, desire is good, but let us understand that desire is not the only ingredient to the celebration of success.

It is imperative that our desire transform into concrete actions so that success will be birthed. These concrete actions are hard work, patience and consistency. These three concepts are the main keys to success.

Proverbs 14:23 tells us, “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty” and Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom”. (NIV)

The Word of God supports hard work, therefore, as Kingdom citizens we should always work hard, stay close to God and be the best version of yourselves. As we apply the principles of the kingdom, our hard work will become a success. Work hard, be patient, remain consistent and one day you will get that beautiful home, one day you will get that position, one day you will get that certificate.

“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Don’t give up, you will make it because God is on your side. There is so much substance and value in you.
