Love and be Loyal

So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church….Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. – Ephesians 5: 28-29,33 (NKJV)

One good bit of advice for anyone is that of loving oneself. When you don’t love yourself, you will allow others to treat you in unwholesome ways. We were all created in the image of God and we’re special in His sight. God did not make a mistake with you. Before you were born, He knew you.

Love is a key ingredient in the recipe for a happy marriage. This must be the God-kind of love that goes beyond faults and sees needs. The presence of children in the family makes it necessary for love between parents to be visible. Children must grow in an environment that always displays love. Children should not be exposed to ‘adult’ conversations and arguments. Children who experience love will learn to show love and as a result, be loved by others. There is a song that children sing, it says, ‘Love is something when you give it away, it comes right back to you.’

Our love for God should urge us to be loyal to Him. Loyalty is displayed in respect, honour, faithfulness, patience, and responsible behaviour. Could you imagine what would happen if love were present between a husband and wife?
