“I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him that curses you: And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. ” (Genesis 12:3-NKJV)
As we celebrate “Family,” we are privileged to read in the Bible, the account of a man named Abram, chosen by God, not only through whom all the families of the earth shall be blessed, but God’s Redemptive Plan of Salvation, would be accomplished.
As recorded in the Book of Genesis, Terah, along with his son Abram, Lot, his grandson, Sarai, his daughter-in-law (Abram’s wife), journeyed from Ur of the Chaldeans with the intent to settle in the land of Canaan, but ended up dwelling in Haran (Genesis Chapter 11).
After the death of Abram’s father, the LORD God told him to leave his country, his family, and his father’s house and go to a land that God will show him. Abram had a choice to make, either to leave or remain in his habitation. Abram chose to obey God. Likewise, we too have to make choices that confront us daily. These choices can either cause us to walk in obedience and receive the blessings of God or in disobedience and receive the wrath of God.
God’s Promises to Abram (later named Abraham – Genesis 17):
- I will make you a great nation.
- I will bless you and make your name great.
- And you (Abram) shall be blessed.
- I will bless those who bless you.
- I will curse him who curses you.
- In you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
When Abram, in obedience to God, chose to leave his comfort zone he became the recipient of the blessings of God (Genesis 12). For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” – (Romans 4:3 NKJV). We as well can choose to believe God for our families today.

Almighty God, we thank You that because of Abraham’s obedience, all families of the earth, today, are enjoying Your blessings, Amen.
