Use the Right Tool

Use the Right Tool

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

Any tradesman knows the importance of using the right tools to get the job done. Can you imagine a chef using a razor blade to cut pumpkin, or labourers using a spoon to dig a canal? Can you imagine a barber using a cutlass to groom his client’s hair, or an arborist using a knife to cut a tree? Surely these illustrations are sprinkled with tinges of absurdities! But from them, we understand that the right tools are necessary for getting the job done efficiently.

In evangelism, the Word of God is an efficient tool. Hebrews 4:12 reveals the power of the Word of God. The Word of God is living! When we speak the Word, it moves into dimensions that our natural mind cannot comprehend. It cuts through the heart, it cuts through motives, it exposes the innermost being and makes a person conscious of who he or she is before the Lord. Even in quiet moments, the Word of God still ministers to the heart.

We can rely on the Word of God as a perfect tool to accomplish what God has set out for it to accomplish. As disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and workers in His vineyard, we need to equip ourselves with this efficient tool. We first must spend time in the Word of God: reading, studying, memorising, and meditating on it day and night. As the Word of God takes root in our lives, we will become better equipped for evangelism.

Let us not get involved in arguments about worldly ideologies and philosophies. Instead, let us, through the help of the Holy Spirit, skillfully use the Word of God to reach the lost!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word. Teach me Your Word, and help me to use It to reach the lost. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
