Grow in the Blessings of the Lord
Galatians 6:7 (NKJV)
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” – Galatians 6:7 (NKJV)
God’s creation is amazing, and it is based on some basic principles which cannot be changed. How plants grow and reproduce is a graphic example of how God provides for us. If we understand that process, we will understand how we can grow His blessings in our lives. The well-known Scripture “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” – Galatians 6:7, is perhaps one of the most important principles of God that should be a guiding power in all our lives.
If you know anything about gardening, you know when you plant a seed in the ground it is completely predictable. You can’t put pepper seeds in the ground and expect to reap cherries. You will reap precisely what you sow. This basic concept is one of the unchangeable aspects of God’s creation. If we sow bitterness and strife, we will receive the same thing. If we sow neglect and abuse, we can be certain to acquire an abundant crop of the same. God’s Word said, “They sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind…” – Hosea 8:7
On the other hand, when we sow the love of God with others, we are demonstrating ourselves worthy of God’s blessings. Jesus describes His fruitful followers this way in Matthew 13:23 “but he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the Word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” When farmers plant seeds they expect to return an abundant crop. When we plant our kitchen garden or even our flower garden, we expect an abundant crop. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are expected to reap an abundant crop ourselves when we’ve sown the seeds found in the teaching of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour. Of course, this process isn’t instantaneous. Just like the plants growing in our garden, these things take time to mature and blossom.
Sometimes we can get a little impatient waiting for the blessings of God to grow just as some plants take longer than others to mature. The seeds we plant in life also have varying timelines. Don’t let us become discouraged when God’s blessings are slow to manifest in our lives. When we diligently cultivate the seeds we have planted on God’s behalf we can be absolutely certain He is watching and waiting for the perfect moment to deliver an abundant crop of blessings.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, forgive us for not planting seeds of love. We confess our sins of planting seeds of bitterness, strife and discord. We choose to plant seeds of love to everyone knowing that You will bless us with an abundant harvest. This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
