Come Out From The Mire – Part 1

“I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry.

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Psalm 40:1-2 (NIV)

Some years ago I observed a young woman in the church who had lost a lot of weight and wondered what was happening to her. What was responsible for the change in her physical appearance? Years later I had a similar experience in my own life. I too lost a lot of weight, and like me, many people were observing and wondering what was happening to me that caused this sudden change in my appearance.

Our general health and well-being depend a lot on our state of mind. This stark reality hit me and I hold it close to my heart. I was reminded of this truth by one of the church mothers and mentors who visited me while I was in what seemed to be a deep dark place. I was in a state of depression and the enemy was bombarding my mind with lies. Had I chosen to believe the lies back then, I would not have been here today to pen this testimony. The Word of God in Isaiah 26:3 states the Lord will keep us in perfect peace once our minds stay on Him – so applicable to our everyday life and wellbeing.

During that trying period in my life, I was confused, tormented by fear, and did not have a social life, I did not know what was happening to me, but in the midst of it all there was always a glimmer of hope and I received much-needed help by submitting myself to counselling and prayers. I read the Word of God and believed what it said, I prayed and sought after my God and He healed, freed, and delivered me. I am a testimony of 3 John 1:2 – prospering and in good health even as my soul prospers.

Today you may be in the midst of a desert experience, things may be difficult at the moment and your health is severely affected as a result of what is happening – your mind is not at peace. Don’t give up, God is able to rescue you, just whisper a prayer to your Heavenly Father Who loves you. Tell Him exactly how you feel. He said cast all your worries and anxieties upon Him because He is a very present help in the time of trouble, He will rescue you and give you peace – Psalm 46:1.
