Oh Give Thanks Unto The Lord!

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!

1 Chronicles 16:34 (ESV)

The Word of God in Luke 17 presents to us an important lesson on Thanksgiving. Jesus encountered ten lepers on his way to Jerusalem, who pleaded with Him to heal their skin condition. Merciful as He is, He aided them and they were healed. One leper returned to say thanks. Jesus asked, “Where are the other nine?” From Jesus’s question we can infer that He was asking, “Why are they not thanking God?”

Similarly, in our everyday lives that same question could be asked of us. Why aren’t we giving God thanks? Thanksgiving is of utmost importance. When we give thanks it releases God’s power to do wonders in our lives. It brings encouragement to us and builds our confidence in God – Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV). Thanksgiving qualifies us to receive additional favours from God; it brings total deliverance from all our troubles – Psalm 50:14-15 and it provokes the blessings of God to be released in our lives – 2 Chronicles 1: 6-15 (ESV).

So today children of God, let us take a moment to thank our Lord. Let’s thank Him for life, thank Him for His spirit that strengthens our inner man and for daily supplying our needs. Despite our circumstances God is with us always, so thank Him! The greatest privilege God gave to us is the freedom to worship and approach him at any time – Hebrews 4:16 (NLT). So use your privilege today to give God all the praises and thanksgiving that He deserves.

Prayer

Father, today we just want to say thank You for Your keeping love, without You we would surely fail. Thank You for Your continued faithfulness over our lives. Help us to always remember to say thanks in every circumstance. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
