God is With us as we Pursue our Inheritance

God is With us as we Pursue our Inheritance

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)

The promise as outlined in Deuteronomy 31:6 was given to Joshua and the children of Israel before they entered the promised land, in other words, we can say that the promise was given to them as they were about to possess their inheritance. The children of Israel encountered many opposing nations on their way to the promised land, but the Lord allowed them to be victorious. This important fact lets us know that we will not receive our inheritance without a fight.

Even though we may encounter those with evil agendas who want to rob us of acquiring what is rightfully ours, we must hold fast to God’s promises, He will be with us, He will help us and fight on our behalf. Moses was old and would not have entered into the promised land, so as a mature leader we see him encouraging young Joshua who was his successor, to be strong and courageous as he led the people into what God had promised their ancestors, that is, their inheritance – Deuteronomy 31:7.

We cannot achieve anything on our own, thus we must always partner with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In Deuteronomy 31, we see Joshua receiving further reinforcement which he could hold on to in this new phase of his life as outlined in verse 8, he was reminded that the Lord himself will go before him and will be with him and will not leave or forsake him. This was a total confidence booster for Joshua, knowing he had the Almighty by his side.

Similarly, as we rest upon the promises of God, they help to drive away previous fears allowing us to assume a posture of victory as we first pursue, then enter, and finally possess what belongs to us. Pursue your inheritance during this season of consecration.
