He’s Ever Constant
Acts 12:5 (NKJV)
“…constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.” – Acts 12:5 (NKJV)
Have you ever made a promise to a child? I have. Children hardly forget promises that are made to them by adults. Sometimes we forget about promises that we have made, but God never forgets, never revises, and has no favourites.
There is a promise that has always touched my heart. It is recorded in Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. (NKJV).
After reading the accounts of the ‘Deliverance of the Children of Israel as they crossed the Red Sea’ – Exodus 14:19-31 and the ‘Three Hebrew Boys in the Fiery Furnace’ (Daniel 3), I connected the dots and was amazed that God had demonstrated in the natural way what He could perform in the spiritual realm.
Rivers and water represent difficulties, afflictions, and trials. People can cause each other pain by being envious and uttering words that result in character assassination.
Passing through these waters could be dangerous. One could be confronted by a slippery path or by an unsuspecting ‘pothole’. Any one of these scenarios can cause injury and pain. When the situation graduates to a river it conjures a picture of an experience that is overwhelming, a drowning situation. God, in His love, caters to every possibility. He will be there in any watery trial. As the songwriter says:
Some through the water, some through the flood.
Some through the fire, but ALL through the blood.
Fiery trials are severe attacks from the enemy and they test, refine, and purify. These attacks cause suffering for all but the Word of God gives amazing encouragement in James 1:2-4, “…count it all joy, when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” (NKJV).
Yes! Fire can test your faith, but it cannot fade or diminish it. Faith is our greatest possession. Believe that you will not be scorched or burned. God promises to be with you.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your promises that are sure from generation to generation. As we live to bring glory to You, help us to remember that You will always be with us. We believe that You will walk with us through the water, the river, and the fire, in Jesus’s name. Amen.
