Jehovah: The Covenant-Keeping God

“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people.” – Jeremiah 31:33 (NIV)

There are many Covenants in the Bible, but five are crucial for understanding the Bible and God’s redemptive plan: the Noahic Covenant, the Abrahamic Covenant, The Mosaic Covenant, the Davidic Covenant, and the New Covenant (the Messianic covenant).

Jehovah God, Whom we serve, is not only a Covenant-making God but a Covenant-keeping God, and He, God, has many Covenantal Names that he is known by. He is Jehovah Jireh, “The Lord is our provider” (Genesis 22:14), Jehovah Nissi, “The Lord is my banner” (Exodus 17:15), Jehovah Rapha, “I am the Lord that heals” (Exodus 15:26), Jehovah Mekoddishkem “The Lord who sanctifies and makes us holy” (Leviticus 20:8, 21:8), Jehovah Shalom, our peace (restored fellowship with God bringing wholeness) (Judges 6:24), Jehovah Raah, The Lord is my shepherd (Psalms 23:1), Jehovah Tsidkenu, The Lord our Righteousness (Jeremiah 23:5-6), Jehovah Shammah, The Lord is there – His overflowing presence within and upon us; His temple, (Ezekiel 48:35), Jehovah Sabaoth – The Lord of Hosts (1 Samuel 1:3). Indeed, brethren, He Is Elohim (Genesis 1:1), our Creator God, and Adonai, our Lord God and Master (John 13:13). He is also El Olam -The everlasting God (Isaiah 40:28), and Qanna – Jealous God (Exodus 20:4-6).

Throughout Scripture, God reveals Himself to us through His various Names. The meanings behind God’s names reveal the central personality of the One who bears them. God also expects us to keep our covenant with Him, as King Solomon stated in Ecclesiastes 12:13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” (KJV).

Beloved, is everything well with you? Is it well with your soul? Have you broken the covenant with your God? Hear God’s command, “…Listen to and obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, so that it may be well with you” – Jeremiah 7:23 (AMP)

Friends, return to or stay with God; it’s your decision. He’s waiting.
