Failure was definitely my destiny. Like Jabez, I was born in obscurity (1 Chronicles 4:9). It was highly likely for me to become a part of the statistics to which my mom fell prey. When I was born, history was about to repeat itself since, in my generation was the manifestation of the blueprint of disappointment.
In keeping with the common trend, my mother conceived me at the tender age of sixteen, and it was predicted that I would follow closely in her footsteps. After conception, my father abandoned me, and so did my paternal grandmother, who disowned me. My children were to be born out of wedlock and were to be fatherless. Hence, like me, they would grow up in abstract poverty.
Obviously, generational curses were predicting my family’s destiny. Drug addiction and insanity were no strangers to my family. My bloodline was stained red with dishonesty, failure, and insecurity. Generationally, it was said that I would never marry and have a functional family. According to the blueprint from hell, the plan was to strip me of my dignity. Hell wanted me to fall prey to the rich men (vultures) who offered me money to lie with me at strategic times when I was vulnerable and hungry. A school dropout is how they labelled me; uneducated and ignorant like many of my relatives, who often saw me in their company.
These were my family patterns. Yes, you just had a peek at my former DNA. How did I break free from all of those adverse predictions and patterns? How did I escape the snare which I was born into? I simply changed my course. It was obvious that my family was journeying in the wrong direction. Like the children of Israel, we were going around in circles repeating the same old cycle (Deuteronomy 2:2-3 – MSG). Sadly, our daily trek on the road that leads to destruction delayed our freedom and robbed us of countless blessings (Proverbs 14:12). Generational curses disinherited us from the blessings of the Lord.
However, it was my encounter with Jesus Christ as a child that secured my liberty from generational curses and their captivity. This new forecast changed the weather patterns in my life from cloudy to sunny. Does my story sound familiar to yours now? Or someone you know? Do they bear any similarities? In the words of Bishop Massiah, “Jesus can change the course and trajectory of your life.” He can change your destiny. Your new life begins now as you say this prayer: Dear Jesus, I repent of my sins. Please come into my life and be my Lord and Saviour. Free me from every inherited generational curse, and let me walk in the blessings of Abraham, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
