The Source of all Blessings – Part 1

“….And you shall be a blessing.” – Genesis 12:2 (NKJV)

God sent His son into the world not to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved (John 3:17). Thus, in salvation, there are concomitant blessings, and these blessings of God begin with a relationship with Him. He is the Source of all blessings.

Blessing is a divine act of God (Genesis 1). In God’s preparation to bless man, He prepared the earth to receive him. He gave light in the darkness (v3); He gave a firmament, separating the waters – the seas from the dry land, which He called earth. He decorated the sky with two great lights – the sun and the moon. One to rule the day and the other to rule the night.

He gave seasons to determine the days and years. He dressed the earth with grass, herb trees, and fruit trees that would yield after their kind. Live, moving creatures He placed in the seas and air. And God blessed them so that they be fruitful and multiply (v22). Living, moving, creeping creatures and cattle on the earth. He then gave mankind dominion over the earth and over everything, and He blessed them (v28). What a blessing mankind received when he graced the earth. The all-sufficient God had made all things beautiful for man’s existence.

There is nothing that mankind can do to earn God’s blessings; we cannot solicit His blessings. It is He who determines how to bless. He gave Abraham blessings with promises (Genesis 22:16-18). God looked at his simple obedience and determined to bless him and his lineage. Unmerited favour!  His obedience found favour with God.

As believers, we are part of the kingdom of God and, therefore, beneficiaries of His blessing – an entitlement. There is no lack in God, nor is there any lack in the kingdom of God. There is an all-sufficiency. The believer has all he needs, for in Him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28).

When things seemingly go wrong, our omniscient, all-knowing God sees the big picture. He is there, omnipresent, ever-present, working everything out for our good (Romans 8:28). For in the good times and in the bad times, He remains faithful – the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Being a functional part of the kingdom of God speaks to a relationship with the King of the kingdom where obedience, faith, and love permeate the atmosphere and engender the favour and blessings of God. The returns to those who believe and are His offspring are immeasurable. He has blessed us with all spiritual blessings (Ephesians 1:3) and with a peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
