Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token, and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.” So the men answered her, “Our lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. And it shall be, when the Lord has given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.”
Joshua 2:12-14
Every day we make deals: we make deals with our children, if they do well at the end of the term they get the desired gift. We make deals with co-workers to complete work duties and sometimes we make deals with ourselves when we decide to live healthily. But have you ever made a deal that changed your life?
A woman in the Bible named Rahab made such a deal with two spies. A deal that saved her life, and the life of her family. A deal that broke generational curses; not often do we make such deals.
Rahab was a Canaanite woman, a prostitute, and an Innkeeper, who lived in Jericho (Joshua 2). Joshua had sent spies to scout the land of Jericho. While doing so, word got to the King of Jericho that Israelite men were in the city to investigate the land, and were in the house of Rahab. The King immediately sent a word to Rahab to bring out the spies but instead of doing so, Rahab hid the Israelite spies (Joshua 2:4). Rahab’s quick thinking and courageous response kept the spies safe.
Rahab, recognising what was soon to come, made a deal that changed her life (Joshua 2:12). She negotiated for her life and the lives of her family to be saved from the coming destruction. She knew the God of the Israelites is omnipotent and seized the opportunity, to make a change; to turn her life around. What are you waiting for? Now is a perfect time.
Like Rahab, you need to strike a deal with God and seize the opportunity now to turn your life around. Break the cycles of generational curses and immoral living that may be permeating your family. Break away from worldly nature and desires.
Rahab’s act caused her name to be in the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah (Mat 1:5-6). Rahab found a new identity, she basically said, “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord”.
Who are you making deals with? Some deals can mortgage your future and some can set you free from yokes and bondages. Ensure you strike the best deal today. Strike an accord with Jesus.
