A Mother With Courageous Faith

“…She saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months.” Exodus 2:2 (NLT)

Jochebed’s faith and courage demonstrate her belief in God’s plan and His power to deliver.

By faith, Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born because they saw he was no ordinary child, and chose to act against the King’s edict of killing every male child (Hebrews 11:23). It takes courage and great belief to hide an infant for so long from the public.

We often think of faith as passive, but sometimes we have to let go and let God have his way. Real faith is active!

Faith calls us as mothers to do ‘risky’ things. When we think of mothers who stand up to their teenage son or daughter, saying no to something when all the other mothers say yes, or when we think of mothers who choose to give up a lucrative career so they can stay at home with their children when everyone around them says that’s crazy, only belief and trust in God can give us the courage to act in such a manner.

As mothers, we must trust in God and be obedient to His call to action in the face of threatening circumstances. Don’t let the fear of what ‘can’ happen cause you to miss an opportunity. Be alert for the opportunities God gives you, and take full advantage of them.

God miraculously used Jochebed’s faith and courage to ensure Moses was found by Pharaoh’s daughter and raised in a royal household as God’s chosen leader. He can do the same for you, young mother.

Prayer

Lord, like Jochebed, we trust in Your promises and Your power. Help us see Your plan for our lives and stand firm in faith even when the circumstances are difficult. Give us courage to face our fears and obey Your Word in Jesus’ name. Amen.
