A New Covenant in Blood

“…This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.” – Luke 22:20 (NKJV)

The Israelites tried Moses’s faith. They were always in trouble. As Moses went up the mountain, God unfolded the Ten Commandments, i.e., how to live. Moses rejoiced in bringing those stone tablets down from the mountain as his face shone with God’s glory. He brought the letter of the law, which was made glorious, but all its glory was dimmed before the exceeding glory that Jesus brought to us in the spirit of life. Friends, the glory of Sinai pales before the glory of the Pentecost.

The Lord has brought us a new covenant, putting His law in our minds and writing it in our hearts – Jeremiah 31:33 (NKJV). This is the new law of the spirit of life. As the Holy Spirit comes in, He fills us with love and liberty, and we shout for joy. Now there is a new cry in our hearts as the Holy Spirit makes it delightful to do God’s will.

So, you may ask, does a man who is filled with the Spirit cease to keep the commandments? I simply repeat what the Spirit of God has revealed to us, that this “…ministry of death, written and engraved on stones” – 2 Corinthians 3:7-11 (the ten commandments that were written in stone) has passed away. However, the man who has become a living epistle of Christ, written by the Spirit of the Living God, and cease to be an adulterer, a murderer, or a covetous man; the will of God is His delight.

How does this new ‘will’ work out? It works out because God works in us by His grace and love, leading, directing, and molding us into a new, acceptable creation.

Prayer

Father, we thank You today for sending Your son to shed His blood for us so we can be partakers of Your new covenant. We are grateful for Your grace and mercy towards us. Help us to remain in You and allow You to transform us into a new, acceptable creation in Your sight. We thank You for doing it, Lord! Amen.
