“Those who sacrifice thank offerings honour me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation.” – Psalm 50:23 (NIV)
Most of us are getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving. We must be reminded to be thankful every day. This is why the Bible repeats the command often: ‘Give thanks to the Lord.’ Our children, especially, are taught to give thanks at a young age. We teach them to say “thank you” for dinner and other things. It is right and good.
God alone, however, is worthy of worship, but what is our attitude to worship? Do we willingly and joyfully come into His presence, or are we just going through the motions, including reluctantly going to church? Psalm 50 tells us to remember God’s goodness and fulfil our vows to Him, and He will deliver us in times of trouble. Thus, we depend on Him and worship Him with Thanksgiving and Praise.
The Bible encourages us toward thankfulness in Ephesians 5:20 (NLT) by saying, “…give thanks for everything…” while Psalm 50:23 (NIV) reiterates what we do when we give thanks to God. It says, “Those who sacrifice thank offerings honour Me…”.
As Christians, we understand that giving thanks is not only our duty but also a lifestyle. It should be done every day, throughout the day. Friends, live with an attitude of gratitude to God from Whom all blessings flow.
When our attention is turned to God to say thanks, the Holy Spirit is working. Our thanksgiving is to be directed to God our Father. He is the One Who gives us every good and precious gift – everything we need. God values even the sparrow (Matthew 10:31), so we can rest assured that He also watches over us.
Today, turn to our good, wise, strong, gracious, and loving Father and say, “Thank You, always and for everything.”
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your unfailing guidance and the wisdom You bestow upon us daily as we navigate the complexities of life in Jesus’ name, Amen.
