“At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom…”
Matthew 27:51 (NIV)
As we examine the plan of God to help us understand the importance of prayer, let’s look at the veil of the temple that was rent from top to bottom. This implies a personal entry at any time – access. We have the assurance that God is a very present help. We get to understand more and more that He is omnipresent and we can approach Him.
It is such an intimate experience that we can pray at home, while on our way to and from work, while at work, or even at school. If there is no one you can trust to be confidential, He is there to listen (and advise).
Prayer is so important that we learn to listen to God’s voice. Jesus says, “My sheep listen to my voice…” (John 10:27 – NIV). In this world where there are several voices with their own message screaming at us, cajoling us, we need to recognise the voice of God. His voice will lead in the right direction: the path of righteousness and the fulfilment of purpose. We would be able to say, ‘Not my will, but thine be done, Lord Jesus.’
Jesus, our Mediator, makes it possible for us to be clothed in His righteousness and enter the Holy of Holies. What a plan for such an important part of our lives!
