At Calvary – We Were Gifted Life

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

Central to our Christian faith lies a symbol of suffering and shame — the Cross. Yet, it is through this very cross that life, hope, and redemption were born. The lyrics of the song “Down From His Glory” are a testament to the wondrous work done on Calvary:

“…Without reluctance, flesh and blood His substance, He took the form of man, revealed the hidden plan. O glorious mystery, Sacrifice of Calvary, And now I know Thou art the great “I AM”

Jesus Christ, the spotless Lamb of God, willingly endured death on the cross. He bore the weight of our sins, took our place, and paid a debt that we could never repay (Isaiah 53:5). His sacrifice was not an accident of history but a purposeful act of love. There on Calvary, mercy met justice. Love triumphed over sin. In short, the crucifixion of Jesus was the greatest act of love and sacrifice (John 3:16).

But the story does not end with Jesus’ burial in the grave. On the third day, Jesus rose again, breaking the power of death and offering us new life, abundant and eternal. Hallelujah!

Because of His death, we are forgiven. Because of His resurrection, we have a restored relationship with God, we have peace, purpose, and hope in the present (Romans 6:23).

Friends, this gift of life is not something we earn because of what we do. Rather, it is freely given to all who believe in Him (Ephesians 2:4-5). Therefore, as we reflect on the cross, let us not be filled with guilt, but with gratitude. Let us not remain in sorrow, but in the joy of salvation.

Finally, let us all take a moment to examine ourselves. Have you fully embraced the gift of life that Jesus offers? Are you living in the freedom and power of His resurrection?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the cross. Thank You for loving us so deeply that You gave Your life for us. Help us to live each day in the joy and freedom of Your gift of salvation. May we never take it for granted, and may we share this gift with others. Amen.
