“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” – Romans 8:28 (NIV)
Are we ready to be a ‘Deborah’ in our time (now)? What is required? Can God awaken in us a passion to do something about the constant upheavals that surround us, as He did with Deborah? (Judges 4-5). Of course, it requires great courage and faith! Today, if God is calling you to be a Deborah, do not pull back and think that maybe He can use someone else. Be reminded that God used, and still uses, very ordinary and unassuming persons to do great exploits, and it is all a part of the plan that He has for your life (Jeremiah 29:11).
God did not save us just to be comfortable attending all the various services and other activities in the church until we’re ready to go to heaven. There are things that He wants to do through us that will lead unbelievers around us to realise their need for the Saviour, Healer, and Deliverer. Today, just as He did with Deborah, God is calling you to leave your comfort zone and do as He has inspired you to.
Are there other examples? Yes, Hebrews 11 lists several heroes of the faith, most of whom were ordinary people who submitted themselves to doing the will of God. God is awaiting our awakening, our yielding to His call to lead people out of spiritual bondage and into a life of freedom in Christ (Galatians 5:1). There is no need to be intimidated, for God will, by His grace, give us the necessary desire and power to do His will (Philippians 2:13), as “…we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities…” Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV). Note also that God’s call may look different for each of us, but there is always a divine purpose and a plan. All we need to do is trust Him and follow His leading (Proverbs 3:5-6) and watch Him use us in unimaginable ways.
Today, whether you’re feeling a gentle tugging at your heart or a burning passion to do something, and you are not quite certain – step aside for a moment and seek God’s guidance (pray), read His word, or seek godly counsel (Proverbs 15:22). Let us all aspire to leave a legacy like Deborah’s, “…Then the land had peace for forty years” (Judges 5:31).
Our legacy can be that our obedience to God’s call led others to a life of service in God’s kingdom (missionaries, pastors, prophets).
