“Therefore, be imitators of God as dear children.” – Ephesians 5:1 (NKJV)
I believe that God has a sense of humour that packs a punch.
I was pouting this morning over a disagreement when I came across the Scripture above. I could not get it out of my head; it was just there, burning my heart. About an hour later, I returned to reread it, and, my oh my, it caused me to examine myself — my motives and actions.
God does not have to scream or shout to get our attention; in the stillness of moments, He speaks profoundly through His Word. Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) states, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
This was exactly my experience. The curtain of my pride and ego was pulled away to reveal the real me. I had to check my heart against the Word. In this journey called life, it is not about being right but living according to God’s Word, dying daily to oneself, and conforming to His Word.
God wants us to walk in His love daily (Ephesians 5:2). He loves us unconditionally, but we are to be imitators of His love. Our love must never be optional but demonstrative, active, and responsive because we cannot claim to love Him and not love others (1 John 3:16, 4:16, 21). Let us be determined to walk in His love.
In fact, as we walk in God’s love, we also walk in His light, for He produces His righteousness in us (1 John 1:7, Ephesians 5:8). God wants us to be His light beams in our homes, communities, schools, and jobs so that we may draw others to Him and His name be glorified. He affirms this in Matthew 5: 14–16. Walk as children of light.
Today, I had my revelation moment with God. Are you ready to take the journey, have your moment with Him, and be gracefully broken? Shalom!
