“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” – 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
Conviction
As believers, our faith in Jesus Christ will be tested. The Word of God admonishes us to revere Jesus Christ as Lord – and to do so not in word only but also in deed and most importantly, in our hearts.
Today, there is a marked rise in evangelism by Non-Christians, both locally and across social media platforms. Like a good Boys Scout, the believer must always be prepared. Prepared to share the reasons for their faith with anyone who asks; prepared to defend and declare the truth despite ridicule and retaliation. Preparation, however, requires the study of the Word of God with faithfulness, and diligence. The believer must not be ashamed of the name of Jesus Christ and of doing good.
Conduct
Even so, the manner in which we witness must never be allowed to descend to hostility, arguments, and violence. The believer is called upon to demonstrate gentleness and respect for the views and (false) persuasions of non-believers, in our evangelism.
Be reminded of the motto of the Inter-School Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship (ISIV-CF): “To know Christ and to make Him Known”.
Let us, therefore, strive to confidently share our faith with a clear conscience in a manner that brings glory to God. Amen.
