Behold the Lamb

“….Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

John 1:29-NKJV

This past week in the Christian Calendar is considered the holiest week in the history of the Church. “Holy Week,” begins on Palm Sunday and continues until Easter Sunday. Christians celebrate the passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ and His victorious resurrection; His triumph over sin and death and His glorification by His Father.

The Bible tells us in the very beginning Adam and Eve sinned against God through their disobedience. In their attempt to hide their shame (guilt, sin), they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings, but it was the LORD God who made tunics of skin and clothed them. This slaying of an animal, was a symbol (shadow, type) of God’s redemptive work on Calvary by His beloved Son Jesus Christ, Whom the Bible declared as the “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

So it was when John (the Baptist) saw Jesus coming toward him, he declared, “Behold! The Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world!” What is amazing is that long before John the Baptist uttered those words, the Prophet Isaiah prophesied about the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. Jesus made three agonising prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane, with the first one being, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” – Matt. 26:36-44 (NKJV).

Because of Adam’s offense (disobedience), sin entered the world and death reigned. You and I, who have received an abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness, will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Why? Because God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ (The Lamb of God) died for us. Today, we are forever grateful that Jesus Christ purchased our Salvation on the Cross of Calvary with His Blood. Why don’t you accept Him into your life today? After all, He paid the ultimate price for you and me.

Prayer

Father in heaven, I am forever grateful to You, that You sent Your Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, to die on Calvary’s Cross for my sins. Thank You for the gift of Salvation given to all who would receive You as the Lord and Saviour. Amen
