“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” – James 1:2 (NLT)
Growing in faith doesn’t happen in moments of comfort – it happens when we choose to believe and keep going, especially when it’s hard.
In our journey with God, there will be trials, and it’s natural to want to escape them. We may pray constantly for a quick end, hoping for peace to return. But do we pause long enough to ask, “Lord, what are You teaching me through this?”
Our walk with God is built on faith. And that faith is tested, not to harm us, but to strengthen and purify us. Consider Abraham, who trusted God so deeply that he was willing to offer his son Isaac. As Scripture says, “…Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith. He was even called the friend of God.” – James 2:23 (NLT). Abraham’s obedience under pressure revealed the depth of his faith.
God may never ask you to lay down your child, but He is asking you to lay down something else. Maybe it’s pride, fear, control, a habit, or even your timeline. Whatever that “Isaac” is in your life, surrender it. Faith is more than belief – it’s trusting God enough to act.
Jesus is calling each of us to live by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). This means we don’t just say we trust Him – we show it through obedience, even when the outcome is uncertain. Don’t run from life’s hard moments. Let them build your endurance. Let them refine your heart. Let them draw you deeper into God’s presence.
Romans 8:28 (NIV) reminds us: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” Every trial has a purpose. Every test has the potential to transform.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, I believe You are walking with me through every challenge. Help me to trust You even when I don’t understand what You’re doing. Strengthen my faith, and give me the courage to lay down anything that hinders my growth in You. I place every worry and burden in Your capable hands. Amen.
