“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.” – Hebrews 11:11 (NKJV)
Things are bad. The medical report is devastating. All the bills became due when we spent the last of our savings on an emergency.
Then, in sharing this dilemma, we were casually told, “Have faith in God; He will work it out.” We sigh deeply and mutter, “Yeah, right, how do I do that?”
This is like Sarah’s response when she overheard the Lord’s promise to Abraham that she would become pregnant. She laughed within herself (Genesis 18:12).
On the other hand, we have been at it, exercising our faith, and now we are thinking, I have tried to believe for so long. I have no more faith to carry on.
But look again at Sarah and her promised child; it seemed impossible in the natural, and it took some time to be fulfilled, but she did receive her promise (Genesis 21:1-7).
Sarah received her miracle “because she judged Him [God] faithful who had promised.” When faith runs out, judge God faithful. When we do not know how to have faith anymore, we focus on His faithfulness. Remember that God is faithful and lean heavily on His faithfulness.
Our faith walk will be challenging if we believe it depends on self, and we would want to give up. However, once God gives us a promise, it is not for us to conjure up faith. It is for us to rest in the One who promised, knowing that He is faithful. Even when we are faithless, He remains faithful.
When it seems like our answers are not forthcoming; when doubt and fear seem to be overpowering our faith, let us remember this promise in God’s Word, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself” (2nd Timothy 2:13 – NKJV).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, we ask Your forgiveness for saddening You when we doubt Your promises. Help us, Lord, to take our eyes off self and keep them fixed upon You and Your faithfulness. Thank You for Your faithfulness throughout all generations. You are the same God, yesterday, today, and forever. Great is Your faithfulness. Amen.
