Breaking Alcohol Addiction in the Family

Breaking Alcohol Addiction in the Family

Proverbs 23:29-30, 32

“Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine….In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.”

Proverbs 23:29-30, 32

In my working life, it was a culture that on a daily basis and every weekend, work colleagues met at entertainment spots to imbibe alcohol. I also witnessed in the refrigerators of leaders, alcoholic beverages stored for usage. During the day, the same were surreptitiously sipped and/or drunk, awaiting the end of the day’s work, to commence the drinking spree. These occurrences are a microcosm of what happens in the offices, fields, and factories.

Scientists found that within the human anatomy there are alcoholic genes that are passed from generation to generation. Some of these genes have been identified, including metabolism, ADH 1B, and ALD H2, which have the strongest known effects on risk for alcoholism.

Information emanating from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism disclosed that those who have a family history of alcoholism have a higher risk of developing a drinking problem. Studies show that alcoholism is approximately 50% attributable to genetics. Among other behaviour traits, parents can pass on to their children a disposition towards alcohol abuse. Research also indicates that among those abusing alcohol are people who are genetically predisposed to alcoholism and have a higher risk of developing an alcohol use disorder.

Dr R. Pepe Ramnauth, author of the book, ‘The Genetics of Vision’, states, “Since genes are transferable, if we disobey the laws that God has given us, it affects and alters the next generation to become disobedient. We must be conscious of what we may be transferring to our children who then transfer it to their children”.

Beloved, God’s Word in 1 Corinthians 6:10 states that drunkards will not inherit the Kingdom of God.  As a believer, you have the power to curse alcohol addiction over your life. As a non-believer, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and pray to break the curse of alcoholism over your life. We have the God of all truth to help us.

Prayer

Jehovah Rapha, I call upon Your name. Because of Your love for me, You sent Jesus to set me free from the curse of the enemy. So, in the mighty name of Jesus, I decree and declare that the curse of my addiction to alcohol is going to stop this moment. Never again will I have this problem.

I appropriate the healing blood of Jesus that flowed from His thirty-nine stripes on every alcohol-carrying gene in my body, fully confident that I am cleansed from alcoholism right now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen!
