Building on the Solid Foundation of Christ

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on a solid rock” – Matthew 7:24 (NLT)

The aforementioned biblical Scripture is a statement made by the Lord Jesus Christ. In Matthew 7:25 (NLT), He further stated that “Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.” Contrarily, Jesus lamented in Verse 26 that those who ignore His teachings are foolishly building their house on sand, and when the torrential rains, flood, and winds come, they will collapse with a mighty crash.

Thus, it begs the question, “What foundation are you building your life on”? Let it be known that it matters not whether you possess large financial and material resources, or enjoy the favour of high-ranking officials, judges, businessmen, military and police personnel, once you ignore the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the foundation of your life, wealth, health, social status, academic achievements and all that you possess, your foundation is firmly established on quicksand. Like a house of cards, it will crumble.

Many people have amassed large amounts of wealth after selling their souls to the devil for filthy lucre. Many have died while others are lying in bed, suffering from some incurable diseases. Romans 6:23 reminds us that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ, while Proverbs 10:16 (NIV) declares that “The wages of the righteous lead to life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death.”

Saints, most people do not deliberately seek to build on a false or inferior foundation; instead, they don’t think about their life’s purpose. They are heading for destruction, not out of stubbornness but of thoughtlessness. Part of our responsibilities is to help others stop and think about where their lives are headed and to point out the consequences of ignoring God’s message.

Elect of God, we are commandeered by Christ to carry out the great commission in Matthew 28:19 and Acts 1:8, and we must remember that Proverbs 11:30 (KJV) declares, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”

Disciples of Christ, soldiers of the Cross, we are the light of this dark world of sin. God the Father of lights (James 1:17) does not expect us to hide our light under a bushel (Matthew 5:15-17). On the contrary, He expects us to be soul winners in our place of employment, neighbourhood, place of business, our nation, and the world as a whole. Time to act; God is counting on you.
