Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee – Exodus 20:12 (KJV)
I chose to celebrate and honour my parents today. They were blessed with me and took the time to instil good values that serve me well today. I am a productive member of society, and for that I say thanks. What is important to note also, is the fact that honouring your father and mother is one of the commandments in the Bible that we all must obey. It is the first commandment with a promise; a promise of long life.
I, therefore, urge all children and adults to give due honour to their parents; love, respect and celebrate them. They deserve it and the Bible said, it’s the right thing to do. Never give your parents the opportunity to say this son (or daughter) is stubborn and refuses to obey (Deuteronomy 21:19-20).
All those who have one or both parents living are truly blessed and should count it as a privilege. To all the little children reading this devotion, it is important that you honour your parents by being obedient, listen to instructions given and do them. Do not squander this opportunity to celebrate them.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, today some may be finding it difficult to relate to their parents, but help them to put aside differences and allow You to heal hurts and pains. I pray also that forgiveness and restoration will be evident so that these persons will eventually get to the place where they will honour their parents, in Jesus name, amen.
