Confidence in Approaching God

Hebrews 11:6 – But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (NKJV).

As a young believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, 1 John 5:14-15 was a portion of Scripture that proved to be very encouraging and meaningful in more ways than one. First of all it reminded me of the character of God – He is omnipotent – all powerful, He can do anything. Secondly, it also gave clear direction as to how I should approach my Heavenly Father in prayer if I wanted to get results. Thirdly, I recognized that knowledge and correct application of the Word of God was absolutely necessary.

The Scripture says “And this is the confidence we have in Him”, the word confidence connotes the idea of trust, assurance and certainty, and in this case all these can be attributed to our God. Then it goes on to say “that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us”, and we know His will is His word, the Scriptures inspired from Genesis to Revelation. So when we put these two phrases together we can clearly see that we can approach the throne of God knowing for certain that once we pray according to His word, He will hear us, it is important to exercise our faith in the will of God.

Now that we have established the fact that God hears us when we pray His Word, when we examine verse 15, we see clearly that God answers our prayers; we will have what we ask for. This is a great encouragement to all of us. God is concerned about the welfare and wellbeing of His children. So today you may be praying about a situation and it seems as if God is not hearing, but are you praying the will of God? Are you exercising your faith in the will of God for your life? As you converse with God, quote His Word which is His will as you lift your petitions daily to Him in trust and assurance knowing that He will hear and answer you.
