Count Your Blessings One by One

“How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand…” – Psalm 139:17-18 (NIV)

Beloved, count your blessings. It will help you remember when you encounter mild or proportionate crises in your life. Some people develop selective amnesia during periods of stress and distress, forgetting the power of God’s provision in their lives prior to such adverse experiences. I implore you, saints, it will help, take out a piece of paper or notebook and write down all the blessings, favour, and grace that you have received. I’m sure you will then give God praise for what He has accomplished in your life.

Our God provided His Son Jesus as a perfect sacrifice to die for our sins on the Cross of Calvary. With His sacrifice, we have received the miracle of salvation (once we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour), and our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (John 3:16). Remember, we were born in sin and shaped in iniquity. We were destined for hell to suffer eternal death, but because of God’s grace and mercy, we have received eternal life. So, in the midst of adversities (work, home, or otherwise), we can still count our blessings. We can praise God for the love of our wives/husbands, the affection of our children, good health, and the encouragement of our friends. Thank You, Lord!

The blessings of God for our lives are immeasurable. The Psalmist David declared in Psalm 103:2-5 (NKJV), “Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things…”. This is our God.

Remember, every problem we encounter gives God the opportunity to guide us through adversity to prosperity. His Word in Proverbs 24:10 (ESV) states, “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. In the midst of any crises, take courage and say like the Apostle Paul, “…Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2nd Corinthians 12:9 – KJV).

Brothers and sisters, count your blessings.
