Criteria for Good Leadership – Part 1

‘Simeon took Him in his arms and praised God saying: “Sovereign Lord, as You have promised, You may now dismiss Your servant in peace.” – Luke 2:28-29 (NIV)

Motherhood is a painful privilege. Yet the pains and privileges of motherhood can be understood by mothers everywhere. Mary’s life was quite satisfactory until the visitation by the angel Gabriel. Her life was about to change forever. Almighty God started reshaping her life.

Upon hearing that she would be the carrier of God’s Son, she replied with words that God waits in vain to hear from so many other people: “…I am the Lord’s servant…May everything you have said about me come through” (Luke 1:38 – NLT). Later, her song of joy shows how well she knew God, for her thoughts were filled with His Words from the Old Testament. She recognised the mighty arm of God upon her life and how He exalts the humble (Luke 1:47-55). Therefore, we are to guide our desires by the Word of God.

At the end of forty days after Jesus’ birth, Joseph and Mary took Him to the Temple to be dedicated to God. There they met two devout people, Simeon and Anna, who recognised the child as the Messiah and praised God. Let us present our children to the Lord Who gave them to us, asking Him to redeem them from sin and death and make them holy to Himself. God answers prayers, and nothing is impossible with Him.
